Your healthcare provider will be able to advise you on whether the OrthoPed splint is appropriate for your or your child's condition. As a guide, the following conditions may be improved through the use of the OrthoPed splint:

• Flexible pes planus
• Mild-moderate spastic quadriplegia, diplegia or hemiplegic cerebral palsy
• Hypotonia
• Hypotonic cerebral palsy
• Severe pes planus
• Mild ankle instability
• Intermittent toe walkers
• Flaccid paralysis
• Vincristine neuropathy
• Peripheral neuropathy

The OrthoPed splint should NOT be used for the following conditions:

• Significant equinovarus / valgus
• Severe hypertonicity
• Weakness deformity
• Dominant toe walkers

You should be able to fit one finger inside the neoprene strap at the top and bottom.

You should pull the cord tight enough so that your foot rests at 90 degress to your leg.

The OrthoPed splint is designed to be worn all day. You will only benefit from the splint while you are wearing it. For comfort, when sitting for long periods please release the tension in the cord by taking the clasp off the magnetic base. Remember to twist the clasp to increase the tension in the cord before standing.

The OrthoPed splint should reduce the number of times you catch your toes on the floor when walking and should make walking more easier.

No, the OrthoPed splint is designed to be used on either your right or left leg.

A red sock-like mark is to be expected but should disappear within 30 minutes. If it does not disappear after 30 minutes, please speak to the person who provided you with the splint as you make need a different size.

The OrthoPed splint should be hand washed and air dried only. Do not put the splint directly on a radiator or other heat source.

The OrthoPed splint should be disposed of in the general waste - the materials are non-recyclable at this time.

People with pacemakers or defibrillators are usually advised about the effects magnetic fields can have on these devices, and that minimum distances are required to many magnetic objects. If you have a pacemaker or defibrillator, please speak to your doctor before using the OrthoPed splint.
